Poland - September 2011

Greek team visits Poland 26/09/2011   to 30/09/2011

We would like to share with you our experience from our visit to Rybnik, Poland.

German and Estonian teams were also there.

We really had a very nice and creative time in Poland.

During the visit the students painted posters on the subject of employment/unemployment.

The European Languages Day school event was great. The visit to the Silesian University of Technology and the Teneco company, as well as the tour of Rybnik and the information about the businesses in the region by the school history teacher Mr. Piotr Paszenda were amazing! On the last day we walked in the streets of beautiful Krakow!

We left Poland with the best memories. In short, our visit to Poland was wonderful!!!!

ART WORKSHOPS

Art workshops held in G10 Rybnik during the visit of teachers and students from: Städtisches Gymnasium Gevelsberg, GERMANY ,GENIKO LYKEIO SKOPELOY, Skopelos,GREECE and Viluste Põhikool, Viluste, ESTONIA
. Students had to paint a poster. The topic was: Employment / unemployment - my vision. We were discovering the main problems facing our world, what is the situation of the youth in different countries nowadays and then we started to put our ideas onto the paper with the help of brushes and paints. the working was so intense that some of us got painted all over our bodies;-)

Why do we have to study?

In the beginning I would like to describe our educational system in Poland. So let’s start. When You are four years old, you often go to the kindergarten. I said often because it’s not necessary. What is necessary before starting a journey with primary school, is last year of kindergarten called ,, zerówka” which prepares children for studying in primary school.
When you are seven years old, your adventure with primary school begins. Primary school has got six classes. After 3 years of primary school, new subjects are added like a Natural History(geography, physics and chemistry together), History and higher level of Maths, Polish and English. When you pass the last class, you need to write a final exam. After all, you get a certificate of graduation and you’re free…
…Until September comes.
After primary school, middle school comes. It’s similar to primary school: you need to pass only or even three classes. During those years, you repeat all the stuff from primary school, learn new material, and perpetuate it all in memory. After three years you have to take part in final exam. You don’t need to write anything, you just have to participate in it. Most people think that this exam is very important part of their future. You next school’s choice depends on this exam’s result.
After you finish the middle school, you have to pick one of three types of high school: comprehensive secondary school, technical secondary school or vocational school.
Comprehensive secondary school lasts often three years if you don’t screw up anything. It’s job is to repeat, and memorize whole material and prepare you to secondary school’s final exam as well as they can. After you pass it, you can join any college.
Technical secondary school lasts four years, During these years you need to learn and specialize in certain way.
The knowledge you’ll get is targeted for a certain profession. After technical secondary school people often pick the technical university.
Vocational school is similar to technical secondary school but lasts only two years. After it you don’t need to go to college because you got professional degree already. You can start your own business. If you have money to do it.
My dream in childhood was to be a surgeon or other kind of doctor. I wanted to save people’s lives. Then I realized that most people for studying medicine have doctors in their families so it’s easier for them. Now I want to be a building engineer, I want to make construction projects and I want to earn a lot of cash.
I think education in Poland is very good. Most schools and universities are on high lever. I think that getting a good university degree will help me to find a better job because employers in Poland often look at education degree and what school you have finished before they will employ somebody. I think that better option is to go abroad because you won’t earn much in Poland, except you’re a politician

What’s so special about learning?

What’s so special about learning?

In my opinion education is necessary to get a well paid job and live in good conditions. When you have a good university degree it is much easier to find job or start your career. If you finish your primary school , gymnasium , secondary school end finally university with good marks it is the best way to your future. Firstly if you get good results in lower secondary school you can choose better education and you achieve good study degree. Secondly, nowadays in Poland every worker needs a good degree because if you are not qualified your employers try to find a better person on your position. Moreover , work success goes together with money – better education is connected with better job and finances. Obviously when you have a good knowledge after studies you don’t have any problems with solving life difficulties and then you can give some advice to other how to handle with it.
In my future I would like to attend Physical Academy in Katowice. I hope I will be a sport teacher one day and salaries will be better then now. I think the importance of education will never disappear because knowledge is always needed for instance to be a manager or a good worker in any company. Now you can see many unemployment people who didn’t care about education and their development in the past. Personally I believe that education always gives you more opportunities then doing nothing and waiting for a miracle.
